What Does a Swimming Pool Designer Do?

Hiring a swimming pool designer can elevate a backyard or commercial property from a simple pool installation to a customized, aesthetic solution that fits in naturally with the surroundings.

A designer matches the available space with the overall vision to maximize the available area and ensure that the pool or spa integrates seamlessly.

Designers work with commercial swimming pool contractors to suggest unique elements such as waterfalls, swim-up bars, fire features or landscaping that you might not have considered. A professionally designed pool not only provides personal enjoyment but also can boost a home's resale value.

Whether it’s a swimming pool architectural design, splash pad architectural design or water park design, Lakeside Consulting nearly 60 years’ experience of turning dreams into reality.

How the Process Works

The aquatic design process typically involves seven key stages to ensure a successful and functional project.

  • Consultation. Lakeside gathers information about the client's vision, needs, preference, and the intended use.
  • Feasibility study. For larger, commercial projects, viability is tested. This includes market demand, potential costs, capacity requirements, options and the best location for the facility.
  • Educational session. Lakeside provides information on material choices, filtration medias, accessory options and relative materials to be considered. Pros and cons of each option are discussed, and the client chooses the best option to suit their needs.
  • Concept development. Designers create initial sketches and renderings to visualize the project. Designers then meet with owners and make adjustments where needed. Contractor options and selections are discussed for the project to go out for bid.
  • Engineering and planning. Lakeside creates a scope of work for contractors to bid to, this ensures true competitive bidding and minimizes the need for future change orders and price increases.
  • Construction. Once the design is finalized and contractors are engaged, construction begins.
  • Project management. Lakeside will oversee the project for the client to protect the owner’s interest and ensure there are no shortcuts in the construction of the project.

Every project is different, but the process remains the same.
